Sr. Accounting Clerk
Purpose
To complete a variety of accounting clerical duties in accordance with standard procedures.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Checks accuracy and completeness of repetitive accounting documents
Prepares journal entries for various accounts
Provide customer service to internal and external customers on various accounting issues
Assist with researching open invoices as needed
Posts and balances subsidiary ledgers or accounts
Examines and codes invoices for proper accounting distribution
Prepares complex budget or income and expenditure reports
Analyzes accounting records to determine cause for results shown
Verifies math accuracy, internal consistency and completeness of accounting documents
Assigns codes and post ledgers or subsidiary accounts
Traces transactions through previous accounting actions to determine sources of discrepancies and makes necessary corrections
Posts and closes certain accounting records such as receivables, payables and reconciliations
Assists in the preparation of accounting statements or reports
Reviews invoices and statements, verifying information, determining accounts, coding transactions and processing materials through data processing for application in the accounting system
Analyzes and reconciles computer print-outs with operating unit reports, researching discrepancies and taking action to ensure that accounts balance
Prepares a variety of routine financial reports, such as financial statements, profit and loss statements, reconciliation and operating costs reports
Assembles data and conducts related accounting studies and analyses to prepare unique reports for internal use
Assembles data and information of external use such as government reports, external auditors or consultants
May coordinate work activities of other accounting clerks, verifying accuracy of completed work and providing input for training and problem resolution
Job Requirements
Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to follow verbal or written instruction
Work requires thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures of the office or function
Requires 5 or more years of previous related experience
Ability to operate computer systems at level to format, edits, and creates (simple) charts and spreadsheets
Requires math skills at a level to complete multiple step math operations
Experienced in computer skills:
word processing and/or spreadsheet
Experienced in using spreadsheet software to format spreadsheets, format columns, move and copy data, create charts and graphs, and created multiple step math operations
Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with associates at all levels of the company
Excellent editing and proofing skills
Physical Requirements
Some travel may be required, depending on assigned area
Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
